Bearded Dragon

Bearded Dragons

Picture
Bearded Dragons are found in South East Australia. They measure 60 cm in length an weigh 500g. Bearded Dragons are covered with spikes on their bodies. They have a large triangular shaped head and are named after their flap (beard) of skin on their heads. Bearded Dragons diets are 80% plants and 20% bugs and insects. Their natural habitats are semi arid deserts, woodlands, tropical savannah heathlands and coastal dunes.

Bearded Dragons are covered in sharp spikes to protect itself from predators by looking a lot fiercer. They have clawed digits to help climb with ease. Bearded Dragons have an orange mix with brown skin to blend in with the environment. They have very strong jaws to crush their food instead of chewing it. Bearded Dragons use their legs to lift their bodies off the burning ground.

Bearded Dragons get their name from being able to enlarge their beard to look more aggressive to predators. They can also burrow underground to escape the scorching temperatures. They can also sun bake to provide absorption from the heat.

Some threats to Bearded Dragons are predators such as dingoes, snakes and birds. What means they are getting eaten and if this doesn’t sop they’re population is going to decrease.

Bearded Dragons are truly amazing animals with many interesting facts. Unfortunately this creature is under threat of it’s survival and we need to act now.
